Indonesian Music Is Taking Over More Playlists

Indonesian music is having a major moment – and the numbers are starting to sing.

According to The S Media, Indonesian music now makes up 78% of Spotify Indonesia’s weekly streams, a big jump from 60% in 2023. The report points to a growing shift where more listeners are tuning in to local artists, local stories and songs in Bahasa Indonesia.

That growth is also reflected in the artists becoming regular names on Indonesia’s streaming charts. Pop balladeers such as Mahalini, Tiara Andini, Bernadya and Fabio Asher have become fixtures, while artists like Hindia and Sal Priadi continue to connect with listeners through alternative and emotionally driven music.

For many fans, the appeal comes from how personal and relatable these songs can feel. Whether it is heartbreak, healing, growing up, or everyday emotions, Indonesian artists are striking a chord with listeners who keep coming back for another replay.

It also shows that local music is not just surviving on streaming platforms – it is thriving. Instead of sitting quietly in the background, Indonesian music is now taking centre stage on what many listeners are playing every week.

For Brunei listeners, this rise feels especially familiar. Indonesian music has always had a strong place here, from emotional ballads to pop, indie and viral songs that travel easily across the region.

So whether your playlist leans more towards Mahalini, Bernadya, Hindia, Tiara Andini, Fabio Asher or Sal Priadi, this is a good time to turn the volume up on the Indonesian songs getting more love across Southeast Asia.
